Connect Claude to ProfitSync: Setup Guide and Example Prompts

AI apps
ProfitSync connects to Claude as a connector. Once it's connected, you can ask Claude about your money in plain language, for example "what did I spend on groceries this month?". You can also have Claude record an expense, update a budget or draft a quotation. You choose which workspaces Claude can see and whether it may only view them or also make changes. Nothing Claude does through ProfitSync moves real money.
This guide covers setup, what Claude can do, example prompts, and how to change or revoke access.
Key takeaways
- Setup takes about a minute. Add ProfitSync in Claude's connectors, sign in to ProfitSync, and pick your workspaces.
- You set the access level for each workspace. "View only" lets Claude read. "View and edit" also lets it record and change entries.
- ProfitSync is bookkeeping, not banking. Claude records entries in ProfitSync. It never connects to your bank, sends a payment or transfers money.
- You can revoke access at any time in ProfitSync under Settings → Connected apps. Access stops immediately.
What you need
- A ProfitSync account. The free plan works.
- Claude on the web, desktop, mobile or Claude Code.
- For a company workspace, an owner or admin must allow connected apps for that company. Your own role there also caps what Claude can do: a viewer can only grant "View only".
Connect Claude (web, desktop and mobile)
- In Claude, open Customize → Connectors (on some versions, Settings → Connectors).
- Find ProfitSync.net in the directory and choose Connect. If you don't see it yet, choose Add custom connector and name it ProfitSync. Paste
https://profitsync.net/api/mcpas the URL, leave the OAuth client ID and secret empty, and choose Add, then Connect. - A ProfitSync window opens. Sign in with your ProfitSync account.
- The consent screen names Claude as the app asking for access. Choose the workspaces Claude may use, set each one to View only or View and edit, and approve.
- In a chat, open + → Connectors and make sure ProfitSync is on.
The connection works across Claude on the web, desktop and mobile. On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an organization owner may need to add the connector for the organization first.
Connect Claude Code
Run this in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http profitsync https://profitsync.net/api/mcp
Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick profitsync and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens the same ProfitSync sign-in and consent screen.
What Claude can do with ProfitSync
Claude can only reach the workspaces you selected, and only at the level you chose:
| Area | With "View only" | With "View and edit" |
|---|---|---|
| Transactions | List and search income and expenses | Record, edit, or move to Trash and restore |
| Accounts and transfers | See cash, bank and card accounts and net worth | Add accounts, record transfers between them |
| Budgets | See spending against each budget | Create and change budgets |
| Recurring entries | See scheduled income and bills | Create, pause or change them |
| Debts and loans | See balances, schedules and payments | Record a debt or a repayment |
| Reports | Income vs. expenses, money flow, calendar, alerts | — |
| Company workspaces | Clients, quotations and client spend caps | Create clients and quotations, convert a quotation |
| Personal workspaces | Savings spaces | Create spaces and set auto-save |
Example prompts
- "What's my net worth across my ProfitSync accounts, and how did this month's income compare to expenses?"
- "Record a $45 grocery expense from my Cash account today."
- "Which of my budgets am I over this month?"
- "In my company workspace, create a $3,000 quotation for Acme Corp for a website redesign."
- "When is my next loan payment due, and how much do I still owe?"
- "Show my five largest expenses last month by category."
If you have more than one workspace, name the one you mean, for example "in my personal workspace". If it isn't clear, Claude asks.
Permissions and safety
- Every request is checked again. Each time Claude calls ProfitSync, it checks the access you granted, your current role in the workspace and the company's policy. If you're removed from a company, or it turns connected apps off, Claude loses access to it at once.
- Claude asks before making changes. By default, Claude asks you to approve a tool that changes data before it runs it.
- Nothing moves money. A transfer, payment or new account in ProfitSync is a record in your books. ProfitSync never connects to your bank, sends a payment or opens an account.
- Sensitive details stay out. Full account and routing numbers are never sent to Claude. ProfitSync never asks for passwords, card numbers or bank credentials through Claude.
- Deletes can be undone. Deleted transactions, clients and quotations go to Trash, where you can restore them.
Read the Privacy Policy for what ProfitSync collects and how long it keeps it.
Change or revoke access
Open Settings → Connected apps in ProfitSync. Under Active connections you'll see each app you've connected:
- Manage access adds or removes workspaces, or switches one between View only and View and edit.
- Revoke ends the connection immediately. Claude must sign in again to use ProfitSync.
- History lists connections you have revoked.
You can also remove the connector in Claude under Customize → Connectors.
Troubleshooting
- A company workspace is missing or can't be selected. Connected apps are off for that company. An owner or admin can turn them on in ProfitSync, or straight from the consent screen.
- Claude says it can't make changes. That workspace is "View only". Open Settings → Connected apps → Manage access and choose "View and edit". Your role in the workspace must allow editing.
- Claude says the connection expired or isn't authorized. Reconnect ProfitSync in Claude's connectors. This happens if access was revoked.
- Figures look a little behind. Claude reads what ProfitSync has recorded. A recurring entry that is due, or a card statement, may only post the next time you open ProfitSync.
FAQ
Is the ProfitSync connector for Claude free?
Yes. Connecting Claude doesn't cost anything extra. Your ProfitSync plan's usual limits still apply, for example how many transactions the free plan allows.
Can Claude move money or pay bills through ProfitSync?
No. ProfitSync is a bookkeeping app. Claude can record that a payment or transfer happened, but it can't send money, pay a bill or reach your bank.
Can Claude see all of my workspaces?
No. Claude sees only the workspaces you selected on the consent screen, at the level you chose. You can change this at any time in Settings → Connected apps.
What data does Claude receive?
Only the results of the requests it makes on your behalf, from the workspaces you allowed. Claude reads the records you've already stored in ProfitSync and nothing more.
How do I disconnect Claude?
Choose Revoke in ProfitSync under Settings → Connected apps, or remove the connector in Claude. Either one ends access.
